Hello Fellow Travelers! I’m your host, Wanda List. If you want to take a spring vacation you’ll never forget, full of rich history, romance, beauty, and experiences that delight the senses, Paris is your meilleur pari, your best bet. Come with me and explore the best picks in Paris.

Wanda List

There’s an old 1953 movie with Doris Day and Ray Bolger – you may know him as the scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz. It’s called April in Paris, and it features a song by that name that was recorded not only by Doris Day but many of the old masters including Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Count Basie, and Frank Sinatra. And before that: there were the big band recordings with Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller, and Tommy Dorsey.

The song speaks of chestnuts in bloom, and in fact, one of the places these pink and white blossoms are bountiful in April is the historical Place Dauphine Square. But you can see them throughout Paris in April.

Place Dauphine Square is the public square constructed by Henry IV in 1607,  and is only fifteen minutes from my best pick for an April stay in Paris.

Check out this comprehensive travel guide, to lead you to the best experience possible featuring an inside peek into one of Paris’ finest value hotels/spas, with proximity to exciting activities, sights, and restaurants.

It’s the 4-star Les Jardins de Mademoiselle hotel and spa, at 15 Rue Mademoiselle, which as of this writing is featuring their Comfort Room for two with a king-size bed for $138 a night.

The rooms are beautifully decorated echoing the hotel gardens in bloom that you can see from your balcony or follow the pathway straight in. Views of Rue Mademoiselle are also available.

Rue means street in French and is often used in street names, to mean street, Drive, Road, or Boulevard.
You can order breakfast in your room, or you can take in the Jardins de Mademoiselle lounge from 7 am to 10.30 am.

There is an all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast at 20 euros per person or an express breakfast for €8.00 with a hot drink, fruit juice, and pastries. The room service breakfast is €21.00 per person.

Your room will have free unlimited Wi-Fi, a desk with a chair from which to compose your Parisian postcards, robes, and slippers, with Sothys bath products, and plenty of storage, with a closet, and chests of drawers.

Are you loving the Sothys bath products from your room? Sothys is manufactured only in Brive, France, since 1946, in the Mas family tradition. But, you can get their well-rated "Restructuring Youth Cream, Anti-Wrinkle and Dark Spot Face Moisturizer" at Amazon.
You know how a fragrance can take you back? Relive Paris with this classic you cannot help but love. It's Chanel No. 5 Eau De Parfum Spray.
This sneaker looks adorable on and is very popular for its precision fit, and standout comfort.

Your welcome tray includes a tea kettle, tea, and a pod coffee machine with cups. You’ll have a flat-screen smart TV featuring international channels. There are bedside tables, lamps, and a headboard light with a dimmer along with a minibar and mineral water.

There is a new sparkling indoor heated pool, with rave reviews, a cascade, a hot tub, and a 10-person Hammam steam room experience. And then there is the spa. as well as a gym.

Their signature spa treatment includes a body scrub, a massage and a facial, much like the Four Seasons provides. But here the personal attention makes you feel like you are the only guest in the hotel.

Some hotels do accept US currency, but for the most part, it’s good to have some converted cash on hand. Today one US Dollar equals €0.92. It is actually recommended to exchange once you get to Paris, from one of the numerous ATMs available.

But you won’t have to leave the hotel to enjoy some of the finest patisseries in Paris. Be sure to visit the Les Jardins de Mademoiselle café’ onsite at the hotel. This charming and elegant little tearoom has had some wonderful reviews from patrons, who raved about everything from their beautiful china and picturesque decor to the kindness and loveliness of the staff.

The tea herbs are offered for purchase from their gift shop for you to enjoy in your room or to gift. The menu is in French, but you’ll recognize many of the entrees, such as their chocolate and carrot cakes, scones, meringues, finger sandwiches, artisan shortbread, espresso, oolong, and chai latte. The waiters are happy to speak English with you.

When you do venture into the streets of Paris, you’ll realize you’ve chosen well. You’re moments away from diverse culinary options, and many of the best Parisian experiences to be had.

Just outside your door within walking distance are widely varied cuisine options including well-rated French, Italian, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, American, and Hawaiian which of course is also American, and Mediterranean. Some are vegan-friendly, cafes, delis, and fast food, with specialties like acclaimed truffle lasagna, cookies, crepes, and sushi.

One of the best artisan sourdough bread bakeries in Paris is only five minutes away. It is the Poilâne bakery founded in 1932 which today is run by Apollonia Poilâne who is third generation. It is situated at 8 Rue du Cherche-Midi, in the heart of Saint Germain-des-Prés.

Ensure successful breadmaking with this high-fired Burgundy clay Emile Henry Charcoal Bread Loaf Baker, made in Marcigny France (since 1850). It is durable, nonstick, safe for ovens up to 520 degrees, and is broiler, microwave, freezer, and dishwasher safe.
From French designer Sam Baron, who studied at École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, these distinctive porcelain plates portray the famed street lanterns that deemed Paris the “City of Lights”.
These are a few of Oprah’s favorite things, La Chatelaine Luxury soaps made of Shea Butter with essences of Gardenia, Coconut Milk, Lemon Verbena, Cherry Almond, Shea, and Wild Fig in France. Set of 6.

We haven't even touched on fashion.

There is an area known as the Golden Triangle, a ten-minute drive to the home of world-renowned stores such as Louis Vuitton and Chanel. Just people-watching and window shopping is a feast for the eyes, with the latest haute couture fashions displayed.

But if you’re looking for bargains, there is the Marais area about 17 minutes away with boutiques, vintage stores, and previously cherished items. The Bis Boutique Solidaire and the Swah Paree Boutique Marais are two such stores with good ratings about twenty minutes from your hotel.

There is also the Rue Alegre flea market in this area to continue your search for vintage couture and retro accessories.

And of course, there is always Macy's, and one Parisian equivalent is Bon-Macy's, seven minutes from your hotel at 24 Rue de Sevres. Founded in 1852, also known as Le Bon Marché, it is considered by some as the first department store. It was expanded in 1872 by the ubiquitous engineering firm of Gustave Eiffel.

Paris has certainly inspired some of history's great artists in every realm. In fashion, food, fragrance, verse, film, music, dance, architecture, sculpture and on canvas.

Portrayed in the original Moulin Rouge movie from 1952, by Jose’ Ferrier, Toulouse Lautrec paints scandalous images of cabaret dancers performing the famous Cancan by Jacques Offenbach with that luminous red windmill churning away in the background.

You'll only be 28 minutes or 6.7 kilometers to the iconic Moulin Rouge cabaret at 82 Boulevard de Clichy. This is the historic site founded in 1889 by Joseph Oller and Charles Zidler. It's still thriving today with well over half a million visitors each year.

The most common way to get to the Moulin Rouge is the Paris Metro. You can get a regular ticket or a weekly pass. Taxis or Uber are available, and you can always rent a Vespa if you are eighteen or older.

The hotel may also provide transportation or consider booking a Paris Moulin Rouge private round-trip transfer from nineteen dollars and forty-six cents. It's a round-trip private transfer with complimentary bottled water, food, and drink with all taxes fees, handling charges, and gratuities included. Not a bad deal.

Get a backstage pass to Moulin Rouge! The Musical with this well-reviewed hardcover coffee table book by David Cote. Beautifully photographed and an excellent read.

Blue Dream Tea Set, with teapot, sugar, creamer, and 4 porcelain cups. Microwave and dishwasher safe. Delightfully charming and gift-boxed for Mother’s Day.

Give your Mom some soft, cozy, and stylish comfort with this Softies Solid Marshmallow lounge set. It has a reverse seam and a crew neck with bracelet sleeves in soft pastel shades.

If you're really craving romance, you can book a horse-drawn carriage to select places from the well-recommended Experience Paris at thirteen Avenue Duquesne - only eight minutes away.

Your hotel is also just eight minutes away from the Eiffel Tower. Though considered by many Parisians as a monstrosity, this latticework symbol of Paris was constructed of wrought iron in 1887 by Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 World's Fair.

Over a thousand feet high, it has eight elevators, but you can still walk to the second-floor level.

You're also nineteen minutes to the Louvre Museum, re-famed in the movie, The DaVinci Code.

The Louve was constructed during the reign of Philip Augustus in 1190, as a fortress, which is similar to a castle, but with thicker walls and smaller windows.

It is said that it would take one hundred days to see all of the art forms that grace the Louvre. But there are some pieces you won't want to miss. They are the most popular of course. But my advice is to decide for yourself which ones are meaningful for you and make a beeline – there are only about half a million works to choose from! If you can't decide, you can always join a guided tour and skip the line!

You're twenty minutes from Notre Dame, or "Our Lady" in English. Deemed one of the most superb representations of French Gothic architecture, this medieval cathedral, constructed in 1163 is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

This magnificent structure has withstood the Hundred Years War, the French Revolution, World War II, and the gaudy, and somewhat destructive redecoration, by Napolean for his coronation.

It's temporarily closed to a fire in April of 2019 and is slated to reopen in June of 2025. But you can still see Notre Dame Cathedral from a Paris Seine River, Dinner Cruise.

You can listen to live music and watch the best of Paris, the city of lights, or Ville des Lumière, go by. As you can see, visible from the Seine Riverbank are the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre.

And yes, that is a quarter-scale replica of Lady Liberty, gifted to the city of Paris in 1889, by the American community there, as a centennial commemoration of the French Revolution.

As you know, the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor was a gift from the people of France to commemorate the alliance of France and the United States during the American Revolution.

The iconic copper sculpture was inspired by Athena, the goddess of architecture, and designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, with the construction of its metal framework by none other than Gustave Eiffel, beginning in 1876.

The two-hour cruise includes a four-course dinner. The hotel is also eleven minutes from the Rue du Bac, also known as Paris' pastry street. Just follow the perfume of baking pastry.

With all of this walking, your feet will thank you for wearing shoes built for this purpose. And you'll fit right in. French women are as practical as they are fashionable. The hottest footwear ranges from ballet slippers to neutral-shade sneakers. Try this extremely popular brand (image above) to keep your feet happy.

April showers are a certainty, so do pack an umbrella. Here is a really good one that not only comes in fashionable colors but folds down to eleven and a half inches. You can overnight it from Amazon.

Right now, Kayak has non-stop flights to Paris for $307 from Nashville BNA.

The Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris is the largest in Europe at over twelve and a half square miles, but you’ll get to your flight on time with energy to spare, on this genius 20-inch motorized carry-on.
